signed "S.C.P" and bearing the general heading of Some ifferences of Ideas betreen Foreigners and Chinese" After briefly sketching the history of Slavery from the beginnin of time, the writer proceeds: -
"Considerin, that a hun.red years ago slavery was almost e universal custom, it is not surprising to find that it still exists ir some places."
And the writer continues; "Sufficiently evil in itself, this system is the garbage heap that breeds many other crimes.

Those who are toc callous to care for the children of others endanger the safety of their own; mothers who employ slaves pre setting up competitors for their meritel crown, There is no subject in which the modern women cen so distinguish herself more then in fighting for the liberty of her sex, by exemple, by persuasion, by combination, Daughters of Memmon, are you proud to belong to the sex that is sold? What is the state of slavery in Centon, the home of the Constitution? Is not slavery prohibited by law, watched by the rolice, interpellated ir Ferliament, thundered at from High places hated by all, and banished to Horį Kong? "Oh, friends let us put our blinkers on end swear that it does not exist!"

Having promised i send you a Chinese newspaper which has been translated from the Hong Kong Telegraph.
I dare say the reply of Mr. Le&u Cho Pak to the question of slavery is quite beyond the point.

As I am living in this Colony over 20 years ago I know thoroughly most of those people treat their girl servants most unkind.
Some of them give their girl servants only 2 bowls of boilin rice and a little poor mest e day.
As to our usual dinner we have to take 6 bowls of boiling vice a day at least.
